Grammatophora

Grammatophora marina is a marine diatom belonging to the araphid pennates. G. marina has a heterothallic mating system (10, footnote p. 211). Sexual reproduction involves behavioral anisogamy with, unlike most members of the group, the production of a single functional gamete per gametangium (8-9). The strains present in the culture collection have been used in experiments of selective feeding by copepods on diatoms (11).
